Remember last month when I introduced you to Fluffy Cheeks?

Well, the awesome folks over there sent me a Flip diaper to review.

I have tried about every cloth diaper out there, so I was very excited to try one I hadn't seen yet.

I really like the Flip Diaper.

It is a cover with an insert that just lays in it.  This is great for a quick change, or if you are going to be out and about.  It is trim and easy to use.  It reminds me a bit of the Bummis Super Snap Wrap, but is one size and I love that.  It will fit both my newborn and 2 1/2 year old.  Love not having to have a lot of different size covers laying around.  It makes diaper changes especially easier for Jeremy, who never knows whose is whose when it comes to anything related to the kids!

They come with 2 different options for the liner - a stay dry insert and an organic insert.  The one pictured above is the organic insert.  I have also used my prefolds in it and it works great.

I love how absorbent the liners both are, and the stay dry one really does just that, stay dry.  Libby wore a stay dry liner with another cloth diaper to bed one night, and when she woke up in the morning, her skin was just moist.  Color me impressed!

My friends at Fluffy Cheeks want to share the love with one of you and are giving a $25 gift certificate to their store.

That is such a great deal, you could get some great diapering supplies with $25!

To enter, go on over to Fluffy Cheeks and look around.  Come back and tell me what you would get with your $25.

For additional entries you can:

1. Tweet about this giveaway and be sure to include @prairiemama in your tweet so I can see it :)
2. Subscribe to my blog
3. Go Like Fluffy Cheeks on Facebook

You may enter as many times as you like, I like to stack the odds in favor of those who work for it ;)  Remember to leave 1 comment for each entry, or you will only be entered once.

Contest will run through Wednesday, April 6 at 9 pm CDT.

Good luck my cloth diapering lovelies!

*I was given a Flip cover, 2 stay dry inserts and 2 organic inserts to assist me in my review.  However, the words, as always, are mine and can't be bought.

Thanks everyone for entering and stay tuned for more AWESOME giveaways coming up soon!!!!!

I want to tell you a little bit about how I got to go to Blissdom this year.

You may remember this post where I delighted in my sheer luck of being able to go.

I was not planning it.  I was not trying to get there.  It really just fell in my lap.

And I am so grateful.

I am so grateful to the wonderful folks at Kleenex who saw something in this little blogger.  Who saw something that they felt was worth sharing with others.  Who saw something in me, and in turn in each of you.

Kleenex has had a campaign this winter called, Softness worth Sharing.  Apparently they felt that my softness (and not just that in my behind) was worth sharing with all of Blissdom.

Kleenex had such an amazing booth on the expo floor.  A chance for every woman there to think of someone she loved and to decorate a special box for them.

If I could decorate a special box for each of you it would say how much I love and appreciate each of you and be filled with goodness to pamper you.

So, with the help of Kleeex, I did!

Each of you has a chance to win this spa escape gift basket.

All you need to do to enter is go to Kleenex and send a share package of tissue to someone you love.  That's it.  Do that, let me know you did and watch the love spread!!!

If you want additional entries, you can tweet about this, including me in your tweet, or put it on your facebook wall.
Leave a comment for each entry.

Contest will end on Monday February 21 at 9 PM CST.

Good luck and have fun!

*Kleenex sent me to Blissdom and showed me a fabulous time. However, the words and sentiments are all mine.

Thyroid Issues

January is National Thyroid Awareness Month

When Seth was 14 months old I thought I was pregnant.  I mean, I'd done it two times before and I knew what it felt like to be pregnant.  I was BONE tired all the time.  Seriously exhausted all the time.  I just couldn't wake up.  I was also having a really hard time losing weight.  I couldn't get it off and I couldn't wake up.  It was making me crazy.  I took so many pregnancy tests that I should have bought stock in E.P.T!

Finally, I went to my doctor.  He ran a lot of tests and found out that my thyroid was was really low.  I had no idea what the thyroid was or did.  I quickly learned though.

The thyroid is a small gland located in the middle of the lower neck, which produces hormones that regulate many functions including temperature, weight gain, and weight loss.  Many Americans experience various problems with the functioning of their thyroid.  Some red flags to watch for are:
  • sudden weight gain or increase in body fat
  • inability to lose weight despite proper diet and exercise
  • fatigue, insomnia or restless sleep, anxiety or panic attacks
  • gas, bloating, diarrhea, or constipation
  • chronic sinusitis or lingering infections
It is important if you notice these warning signs you see your physician to learn more. Cause I'm not a doctor!

For those of us in the childbearing years, it is also very crucial that you get it checked if you suspect this could be a problem for you.  Low thyroid levels contribute to miscarriages.  During my pregnancies with Amelia and Libby, I had to get my thyroid checked every trimester.  This not only reassured me, but was vital for the health of my pregnancies.

There are also many online resources for those seeking more information and support.  One online resource is the Fibro 360 Community – Fibromyalgia and Fatigue Center.  This online community not only offers a network of support, but also resources to those seeking more information about fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, and related disorders including those concerning the thyroid.

This is a community I could have used when I first was diagnosed.  And now that I have been on my thyroid medication for 4 1/2 years, I feel that I can help those who are very new in this journey.

If you’d like to learn more or would like to join the Fibro 360 Community, please visit Fibro 360 on Facebook .  You can also follow Fibro 360 on Twitter.

Could you use a little pampering?  One of you lucky readers will win a $25 gift card to Amazon.com to be used on whatever you need!  Let Fibro 360 treat you!

To enter, please visit the Fibro 360 Community on Facebook and become a fan, then let us know in the comments.  Would you like a bonus entry?  Let me know that you follow @Fibro360 on Twitter!
Contest ends January 31st at 11:59 p.m. EST.

Milk Bank Review and GIVEAWAY!

You all know that I am a pretty passionate lady. I am passionate about a few (hundred) things and one of them is breastfeeding. I know that not everyone is as lucky as I am and gets to stay home with their babies. I know that some Mom's have to or choose to work. I also know that some Moms just need to pump and store their milk for various reasons. I like to pump to have some extra on hand in case I need to be gone and Miss Libby needs to eat. I also pump for a friend whose baby isn't getting enough of Mama's milk. There are as many different reasons to pump and store milk as there are Mamas that do it.

So, when I was given the opportunity to review the MilkBank System, I was really excited. This is a revolutionary new way of storing your pumped breast milk. The vacuum storage system is clinically proven superior to traditional storage bags or bottles in protecting vital nutrients and flavor. The triple-vented, insulated bottles keep milk warm, even through longer feedings, and best of all, they are easy to clean and guaranteed not to leak. The entire MilkBank system—including the packaging—is free of lead, phthalates, PVC, and BPA.

So, what's the big deal about a vacuum storage system you ask? Well, renowned lactation scientist, Dr. Jimi Francis, IBCLC, investigated the efficacy of the MilkBank System in preserving breastmilk taste and nutrient levels and found that MilkBank was far superior to traditional methods. Dr. Francis writes:

"The oxidation of food products is well documented. Changesin product color, odor and taste are the most easily detected effects of oxidation. Nutrient loss, rancidity, and microbial spoilage are all part of milk degradation as well. This degradation, over time, is caused in part, by the presence of oxygen. Removal of headspace oxygen should minimize oxidative effects in stored breastmilk, prolong shelf life, and improve nutritional quality."

Who among us doesn't want the best for our babies? Who wouldn't do whatever we could to make the milk we are pumping as fresh as possible for our little ones? That's what I thought.

This system is really easy to use, as evidenced by the fact that I did it! I pumped a wee bit, and gave it a go. I put the pumped milk into the smallest container, put on the lid and vacuum sealed it. I was a bit skeptical about it actually vacuum sealing it though. So, I opened it up and it made that sound, you know the sound of something after it has been vacuum sealed shut and you open it? That popping sound? Yeah, it made THAT sound! I was so excited!!!!!

This system also comes with an insulated feeding bottle. Did you know that in a study done by Stanford University they found that "keeping the milk warm throughout the feeding significantly improves nutritional ingestion, produces improved growth, and can improve survival rates superior to milk fed cold or at room temperature"? Yeah, I didn't either.

Given that knowledge the people at MilkBank included the insulated feeding bottle. This is a bottle that you fill with warm water and attach to the outside of the milk bottle. It is guaranteed not to leak and really does keep the milk warm!

Are you as impressed with this company as I am? One lucky reader will win the complete MilkBank Starter Kit! This includes:
  • One MilkBank Starter Kit, which includes both the vacuum storage and insulated feeding systems (2.5 oz. and 4.5 oz. bottles)
  • One MilkBank 8 oz. bottle for storing/feeding breastmilk for older babies that consume more than 4.5 oz. per feeding.
Pretty cool huh? So, what do you need to do? Comment. Tell me why you want this. Pretty easy!

This contest will close on Friday, February 20th at 8 pm, MST, when I choose a winner with the help of my pal Random.org. So, get your comment in. You can enter once a day.

Already Wednesday?!?!

I totally forgot that yesterday was Tuesday! EEK! So much for Tuesday Inspiration.

See, here's the problem. I've been busy. Yes, with kids and housework and all that jazz. But, something else has gotten my attention. It happens every few months. I have a week that I just sit at the computer and pray. What do I pray for you ask? I want to win.

It's the Bloggy Giveaways! Seriously, well over 1000 giveaways in one place! I never win...but I keep trying!

Tonight, I found my FAVORITE giveaway (I am REALLY praying for this one). SHOES! This is from An Island Life and you can win some fabulous shoes from You by Crocs. Now, I love me some crocs. Anyone who knows me in real life knows I wear them a lot. Now, I can wear them and be sassy at the same time! Can't you just see me in these? Of course, the only way I can afford them is to win...so....I'm doing everything I can!

So...take a week off of life and go enter LOTS of giveaways! It's always fun :)
