I'm Not Freaking Out

Maybe I should be, but I'm really not. Seth starts Kindergarten on Monday. We've gone and met his teacher, seen the school, and done all of the obligatory back to school things. He has his big backpack (KU thankyouverymuch), school clothes, new shoes and is so super excited he can hardly stand it.

Everywhere I look Moms are freaking out that their children are starting Kindergarten. Sure, it is a bit surreal for me since I remember my first day of Kindergarten...but I am not freaking out.

I'll tell you why.

In Utah, Kindergarten is only 2 1/2 hours a day. Yep, 2 1/2 hours. This is like free preschool. Now, I don't want all day Kindergarten, I don't think that 5 year olds are ready for that yet, but REALLY??? 2 1/2 hours?!?! He went to preschool for longer than that.

So, I am not freaking out. I wish he'd be gone a little longer actually. This is going to be good for both of us, we need time apart.

He is going to do great, have fun and learn so much. He can't wait and really, neither can I!

I didn't like it either. I mean, my older two were used to going to pre-school for 4 hours and then dinky Kindergarten was only 2.5 hours? Really? Next year I'll be sending my Missy to 4 hour preschool at 3 years of age because of her delays. She'll get on a cute bus and ride there. Sure that seems sort of hard, but we'll adapt. My now 7 year old was in all day Kindergarten and it was great for her. She had 2 different teachers, an AM one and a PM one. It was just what she needed. 2.5 hours is just enough time not to be able to get anything done hehe.

My kids did 2.5 hours of kindergarten in OR. It was wonderful for them b/c it was just the right amount of time. I found out a few weeks ago that my kids new school just made kindergarten full day. I'm not very happy.

P.S. I love your blog button.

Teresa was in preschool ALL DAY then went to half-day kinder. It was not enough for her. Half-way through the year I switched her from my school to a school with all day kinder. She loved it so much better!!!!!!!

Seth is going to do GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree 2.5 hours seems pretty short, but I really wish Aaron didn't have all day kinder. 8:20am through 3:40pm...with the bus that becomes 7:45am to 4pm. It's crazy he's gone that long!

How strange that it's only 2.5 hours...I mean J goes to preschool for 5 hours a day.

Weird, but glad you'll be getting a small break each day nevertheless.

Enjoy your break!!

2 1/2 hours is kind of ridiculous! What ever happened to half days??

I was wrong - Meredith is there for 3 hours. BTW, she had a great first day!
