One Step Forward...

Fifteen steps back. That is what our potty training journey is like right now. Have you heard that girls are easier to teach to use the toilet than boys? Well, my daughter is the exception to the rule. Seth was SO easy. He decided one day he wanted to wear underwear and hasn't looked back since. He was dry for naps and in the morning within 1 week after wearing underwear.

Amelia...well, she is another story and I am really frustrated. She was doing so good. Wearing underwear, staying dry (mostly) and well, being done with diapers. In the last week though, she has totally regressed. Today she is wearing diapers again. I just can't go out anywhere with her in underwear. She peed on the floor of the toy store yesterday. She wet herself 3 times yesterday. She's in a diaper today. I told her if she could keep it dry she could wear underwear. She's already peed in the diaper.

I really don't want to have her in diapers, but I also can't be cleaning up pee all day. I don't like Pull-ups because she thinks they are just like a diaper.

HELP! Has anyone else had this happen? What do I do? Should I just let her wear diapers and when she's ready to wear underwear again let her? The thing is, she gets terrible diaper rashes when she wears diapers. And...well, it makes me cranky. I hate that she is in diapers. She wants to be a big girl, but just won't go sit on the toilet. Luckily she isn't pooping in her diapers. Of course, now that I write that and put it out to the Universe, she will start.

My oldest wasn't officially potty trained till almost 4, and still on occasion piddles a tiny bit, but then catches it. The only thing that worked for me was letting him be naked, he would notice he was starting to dribble, and then rush off to the potty, after a few months of that I introduced the undies and it worked so much better then all of my other efforts. Hope that helps.

I saw your comment on 4 little men and girly twins, on her post about cheese. You mentioned that you made your own almond milk.

Would you please share with me how you made your own almond milk? I would like to try it myself.

Thanks.

That is tough. I have heard that one day boys just decide to do it. I am hoping that is the case with my little one. BG my 3 yr old girl was trained last year but it took many months to do. She didn't regress so I am so sorry I have no advice for you. My niece was the same way. She would wet herself adn never tell anyone. BG on the other hand hated the feeling of being wet. Let me know what you learn.

Good luck! I have twin boys one was potty trained at age 3 and the other was 4 almost 5...I think it is all up to them and when they decided enough is enough...Good luck!!

I had so many frustrating moments with Ethan, because he simply refused to go on the potty. One day, I left him naked and cleaned up puddle after puddle. That night, I put a diaper on him and said, "Fine! You can wear diapers until you're 5!" I just resigned myself to diapering and not mentioning the potty anymore.
3 weeks later, the day after he turned 3, he decided to pee on the potty and that was it. Trained in a day, like Seth. When they are ready (both physically and mentally), it really does happen quite quickly.
((((((hugs)))))) because I truly do understand the frustation.

I get frustrated when I hear about how easy girls are to potty train. I think kids are individuals and it just depends. Both of my girls "got it" just after their 3rd birthdays. I had to let go until they really wanted to do it. I did bribe them with the promise of a "potty party" when they stayed clean and dry all day for 10 days. I remember Aurora getting rashes, and it is part of what really pushed her to stay dry. I wish I had some magic advice, but empathy is all I have.....empathy, and just to be patient. She will get it.

I don't know that I have anything really good, but we used to put undies under the pull-ups or diaper. That way they feel the wetness, but nothing else does. It might exacerbate the diaper rash problem, but you could try it and see if it motivates her. Also, you could find something she likes and reward her with it after a certain number of successes.
